Goddess of Beginnings

   Just in time for the first stirrings of spring and the Spring Equinox, or Ostara, comes the Goddess of Beginnings. This Goddess brings you love, prosperity, new beginnings, and a reminder that we can always start over.

   As flower bulbs are shooting up in gardens everywhere, this Goddess whispers, “What changes do you wish to start?” She reminds us to ponder on the transformations we want and need to make in our own lives. What bulbs should you and I take the time to plant so that we can nurture them, help them grow, and finally be able to enjoy the fruits of our labors? Are we happy with the way our lives are going, or are we hearing the whispers of the Goddess of Beginnings who says she is here to support us along our journeys? All we must do is take those first few steps and believe in ourselves.

   This Goddess is decorated with a hand embroidered flower as well as a beadwork design of my own making. A felt heart embellished with a silver filigree heart charm is blanket stitched onto her chest, and she is hand-sewn closed with blanket stitching as well. Her hanger is made from double strung pink, green, and blue translucent beads with silver spacers. The same beads drop from the bottom tip of the Goddess, adding interest, texture, movement, and the hint of a taproot sinking deeply into soil. While the beads of the hanger and dangle vary in both shape and color to provide visual interest, the beads of the flowers vary only in color, their shape providing a cohesiveness throughout.

   Are you ready? Do you feel the quickening of the Earth as she wakes up and begins to gather her energy for new growth? Do you hear her call out to you: “What do you wish to begin?”
